Weimao graduated with a PhD degree from UNC in 2010, He is currently working as an Assistant Professor at Drexel University at Philadelphia. [website]
For years, Weimao enjoyed being an engineer. He received an undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering from East China University of Science and Technology in 1998 and worked as a software engineer in the IT industry for six years. After a technical lead career with Lycos Asia and eBay China, he came to the Indiana University at Bloomington to pursue a Masters degree in Information Science in 2004 and ended up being attracted to the research in Information Retrieval. In 2007, he followed his advisor, Dr. Javed Mostafa, to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and continued his Ph.D. pursuit. Narrowly speaking, he was interested in information retrieval (IR), particularly the retrieval and filtering of information in distributed networked environments. Key words that describe his research and interests at LAIR included information retrieval, information filtering, text mining, machine learning, information visualization, network science, agent-based simulations, etc.
Dr. Mostafa in the BRIC-GE Seminar Series
Dr. Mostafa presented a talk titled “A Medical Image Workbench: Balancing Representation & Access Challenges in ViewFinder” at the BiomedicalResearch Imaging Center, UNC at Chapel Hill. The research project discussed is based on a curated MRI image data collection provided by the Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI).
